Three years ago I wrote a list of the Top Ten Restaurants in Palm Coast and since then I have received the occasional negative response to that article. I like to think the silent majority approved of my choices, especially if they, like me, are on a budget and are attempting to fit the dining needs of a family with small children. I also stand by my list because many of those restaurants disregarded for being "chain" or "fast food" also employ a large portion of our area's residents.
From that original article, Barbara Jean's and Strathmore Bagels are sadly no longer with us. This was surprising but I have since heard many theories as to why they did not survive this tough economic climate. All I know is I miss the pumpkin bread and crabcakes at Barbara Jean's and the awesome lox platter at Strathmore.
We all have our opinions on the best places to eat in our particular hometown. These are few more that I would add to my own personal list of the best:
A1A Burrito Works - We love the food and the atmosphere at the outdoor Flagler Beach location and the Palm Coast location, which has ample indoor seating. The homemade salsas are rad. It is the only place to get sweet and wonderful Mexican sodas too.
Kawa Sushi - This new sushi bar gives my previous favorite, Kokoro, some very stiff competition. Try any roll with mango. It is also a very affordable place for sushi and they have free wifi on request. The tempura was also terrific. The interior is beautifully designed.
La Piazza - You want fine dining? You got fine dining. La Piazza is the place to go for a romantic dinner, to impress out of town guests, or to just enjoy quite possibly the best cuisine in Palm Coast. I recommend the Calamari al Nero di Seppia, a Sicilian dish of squid over black linguine with a Sambuca sauce. And the amazing cappuccino!
Europa Lounge and Bistro - My article regarding this longtime fixture in Palm Coast's nightlife, and its relatively new dinner menu, tells you all you need to know. This is where so many Palm Coasters select to spend their birthday celebrations (this writer included). Do not miss out on a chocolate raspberry martini while you are there.
