Not only has a new biography been released, but a new documentary about J.D. Salinger’s life is set to hit theaters Sept 6, 2013. The movie from The Weinstein Company is an in-depth look at J.D. Salinger’s life.
Based on the trailer, this new documentary seems to cover many questions that long time fans of the “The Catcher in the Rye” author may have. With interviews with family and friends, and from actors like Martin Sheen and Edward Norton, this documentary looks like it will cover just as much as the new biography does. If the 700-page book seems like too much for you to commit to, then grab a ticket for the movie instead.
The movie’s director, Shane Salerno, also co-wrote the biography that was just published. Salerno took a ten year long obsession with J.D. Salinger and turned it into two enormous pieces that will (hopefully) answer the question everyone has been asking: Why did J.D. Salinger stop writing?
The documentary runs 120 minutes, and is only has a limited release, so cross your fingers it's coming to a theater near you. To find out more head on over to the official movie site.
Early viewings already have critics raving. Including Eric Kohn of Indiewire who says the movie is, “Unquestionably enthralling.” As well as Marlow Stern of The Daily Beast who says, “Salinger is a thoroughly engrossing film that provides a full bodies portrait of the man, the myth, the legend.”
