Fun Stuff, a cozy little gift shop located in the South Adams Square office building in Birmingham, celebrates its first year anniversary today with a tea party complete with cupcakes. However, that's not the only reason for the festivities. Fun Stuff (first featured in Detroit Tea Examiner's May article "Fun Stuff for your next tea party at Birmingham's newest gift shop") is not only commemorating one year of business, it's also launching the sale of a new brand of tea, Eli Tea.
Denise Kulak, owner of Fun Stuff, spoke to us today at her retail shop, explaining upcoming plans for the new tea brand at her store. "The dream” says Kulak, “is to open an 'Eli Tea Bar', combining a gift shop and tea bar in Adams Square."
Eli Tea is the creation of Elias Majid, and according to the company's website, Majid has combined the influence of his family's heritage and his continuing study in biology to produce high quality tea. Both his parents are from India and, with many of his relatives in the medical field, Majid credits his family for shaping his philosophy about tea.
Currently a graduate student in the field of biology at Wayne State University, Majid's tea company has distribution centers in Detroit and Chicago.
Eli Teas fall into four categories: American herbals, chai, specialty tea and homeopathic tea blends, several of which are carried at Fun Stuff.
Fun Stuff offers guests a chance to get up-close and personal with Eli Tea. Different varieties of tea, including Earl Grey and Traverse City Cherry Festival Tea, are displayed in small glass jars which visitors are encouraged to open, inspect and sniff.
However, the party doesn't have to end with the tea. Fun Stuff not only sells teas, but a variety of gift items including candles, jewelry, gift bags and cards. Stop in for the tea party, but stay for more fun stuff.
