More fests, more lineups: sweetlife, Psych Fest, Free Press, Pitchfork

It’s only one day but the creators of the sweetlife 2014: A Music + Food Festival hope to entertain and influence festivarians for a lifetime.

Taking place May 10 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, it’s promoted by the organic East Coast food chain that focuses on farm-to-table salad shops. Besides live music, there will be delicious options supplied by local restaurants and chefs, food trucks and farmers.

The lineup includes headliners Foster the People and Lana Del Rey plus 2 Chainz, Capital Cities, Fitz & the Tantrums, Chromeo, Bastille, St. Lucia and Bombay Bicycle Club.

Normally, publications write about music festivals but six years ago “Free Press Houston” started one. The Free Press Summer Festival has become its annual method of presenting a couple days of national and local artists.

The 2014 lineup brings a diverse and international roster on May 31-Jun 1 at Eleanor Tinsley Park in Houston.

Headliners Jack White and Vampire Weekend are joined by Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wu-Tang Clan, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Deftones, Drive-By Truckers, Cage The Elephant, DMX, Childish Gambino, Die Antwoord, Big Gigantic, Mariachi El Bronx, Paper Diamond, the Kills, Tune-Yards, Chvrches, The 1975, Zedd, J. Roddy Walston & the Business, Sky Ferreira, King Khan & the Shrines, Lord Huron, Rebelution and Washed Out.

Austin Psych Fest 7, May 2-4 at Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas, has announced the second round of artists.

More than 30 acts have been added including The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Panda Bear, The Dandy Warhols, The War On Drugs, Temples, Bombino, The Fresh & Onlys, Bardo Pond, Sleepy Sun and The Octopus Project.

They will join Loop, The Black Angels, The Zombies, Of Montreal, Black Lips, Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, Liars, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Mono, Dead Meadow, Woods, Acid Mothers Temple, Barn Owl and White Hills.

Previously scheduled headliner Primal Scream has cancelled its Psych Fest appearance along with its entire U.S. tour.

The 2014 Pitchfork Music Festival returns July 18-20 to Chicago's Union Park. The 10th annual independently run event presents another diverse lineup that includes headliners Beck, Neutral Milk Hotel and Kendrick Lamar

They will be joined by legendary producer Giorgio Moroder who will do a DJ set, Grimes, Pusha T, The Julie Ruin, Sun Kil Moon, Sharon Van Etten, tUnE-yArDs, Slowdive, DIIV and Death Grips.
