The film, of course, started production today with James Wan ("Death Sentence") on board as the director, and the Twitter page hit us fast, and furious, with some interesting casting and plot details.
Apparently Kurt Russell hasn't officially joined the film, and if he does will play the father of Jesse (he was part of the good guys group in the first film), and he would team up with Jason Statham's character (brother of the bad guy in "Fast and Furious 6") to take revenge on Toretto (Vin Diesel).
Universal was looking for a bad guy in "Fast 7" to be the main villain in "Fast 8" which means they are already developing a story for an eight film.
Add to all of this that Lucas Black ("Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift") is set to reprise his role for the new film, and it only makes sense due to the continuity of Han dying in Japan, and him seeing Toretto shortly after.
I have to give the producers credit with what they have turned the franchise into.
