As you were informed yesterday, the Helen Woodward Animal Center is preparing for their next event, the Puppy Love 5K that is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 10th from 7:00 a.m. until Noon. The organization works tirelessly each year to conduct the events that provide them support from the general public and allows them to help the homeless animals and the educational programs that they organize.
This event has drawn some local celebrities. These celebrities will be not only attending the 5K, but each have their own role in making certain that the day is a complete success. The event is an annual event which is open to the entire family.
Raoul Martinez, a family man and the Fox 5 Morning News Anchor, who is also a lover of rescue dogs will be displaying the family-friendly portion of the event. He is an annual participant that gets to spend time with many of HWAC’s canines as well as introduce the dogs to his wife and family who will accompany him for the day. He has also invited his “Fox 5 Family” to help him kick off the race and join in the day’s festivities.
Jagger and Kristi, the Magic 92.5 XHRM-FM morning show hosts are long-time friends of the Helen Woodward Animal Center and have participated in the past with the Puppy Love 5K as well as the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon Contest held in the summer. They even bring along their beach-loving dog Bodie! Jagger and Kristi are unique in that they are one of the few radio host married teams in the U.S. They have been entertaining San Diego radio listeners for greater than 11 years but they are truly passionate about animals. Their favorite pastime is spending time with Bodie and their four horses, Frosty, Vegas, Teddi and Laci.
Jagger is scheduled as the race host while Kristi will join Bonnie-Jill Laflin, model, actress, broadcast journalist, fashion-designer and NBA scout, as the costume contest judges. Laflin is also proactive by being the Assistant GM for the Lakers’ Minor League Team, The L.A. D-Fenders. She also holds a Super Bowl ring and five NBA championship rings.
Although she is quite the celebrity, Bonnie-Jill Laflin is completely dedicated to the military and the welfare of animals. Due to her passion, she founded the charitable organization, Hounds for Heroes. Laflin and her rescue dogs reside in L.A. Her dogs include Diamond, her Chihuahua/Boston Terrier mix, Wilt Chamberlain, her Pug/French Bulldog mix, and Johnny Cash, her cat.
Helen Woodward Animal Center could not ask for more loving and caring volunteers who will attract the public because that is where they are most comfortable. This event should really prove to be another successful one for the very successful Southern California animal rescue. Can’t wait to hear how it all comes out!
