It appears that Floyd Mayweather Jr's time in jail did not help him learn a thing or two about respecting women. Last week, Floyd was in Detroit promoting his fighter Ishe Smith who was challenging Cornelius Bundrage for his title. Unfortunately, Floyd wasn't solely focused on the fight as he displayed a horrible amount of disrespect for Bundrage's wife. According to a March 4th report by The Detroit News, Mayweather was harassing Shawana Bundrage during the fight, including getting up in her face as he screamed and laughed at her.
Shawana also serves as manager for her husband and was trying to watch her husband fight. Shawana would not dignify Floyd's actions by publicly commenting on them other than confirming to the local paper that it happened.
Floyd has a long history of domestic violence against women. Additionally, he has a long history of controlling his anger. This example of disrespect is rather surprising even for Floyd. You would think the man learned his lesson after going to jail for abusing his ex-girlfriend in front of two of his kids. Instead of trying to create a reformed image, Floyd is back to being a classless individual. There's no room in boxing for harassing a fighter's wife. It's tasteless and deplorable.
Floyd's in-ring image has also taken a hit over the past week. His former best friend 50 Cent blasted Floyd in the media saying that Floyd "ducked" Manny because of money. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez just blasted Floyd for ducking him by not signing a contract to fight him even after verbally agreeing to fight Alvarez, provided they both won on May 4th. Because of Floyd's actions, Alvarez decided not to be on the same PPV with Mayweather.
Floyd will face Robert Guerrero on May 4th in Las Vegas, while Alvarez will now fight Austin Trout on April 20th.
