More cold mornings, and chilly days ahead

Monday morning watch and warning display from the National Weather Service
Monday morning watch and warning display from the National Weather Service

It's been a cold start to 2010. Sunday's low of 26F at the Jacksonville International Airport was warm compared to areas west and north of the city.

In Glen Saint Mary, Florida the morning lows recorded 21.6 for Sunday, and 20.5F Monday.

The question is. When will we see warmer days? Not anytime soon. We will however see upper 50's during the day Thursday. Our only reprieve before the next cold shot from the north.

We will see another front move through the area Thursday night to reinforce the cold temperatures. With this front, and depending on the timing, there could be a chance of sleet occurring west of Jacksonville in the rural areas, where it's colder away from the metro.

Also, after the passage of the front Thursday night, we will have to watch to see if there is a wind shift to the northeast. With this, we could see some early morning ocean affect snow along the coast. Just a possibility.

   Weekly Weather Forecast:

   of the front.

Friday: A 20% chance of showers before 12 pm. Partly cloudy, with a high around 44.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 20.

Remember, with these cold temperatures, we have to check with our elderly family and friends to make sure they are ok.

Also, bring in your pets. Cold weather can create just as much of a problem for dogs and cats as it can for humans.
