As time goes on, more and more cities are adopting cat-control ordinances as to keep their city streets free of unwanted felines prowling about. While the thought may be good, keeping cats from ending up in shelters and rescues because they have multiplied several times over, cat lovers everywhere wonder if this is not cruel and unusual. Perhaps if the proposal was beneficial, it would be more acceptable.
Perhaps lawmakers should seek a way to control cat populations, thus displaying more of a concern for the species, than simply stating that cat owners should have to keep their cats locked up; unable to get out in the bright sunshine.
It is also a shame to limit the amount of cats that some people have. Just as in every scenario in life, there will be one person, or a small group of people, that ruin situations for others. With cat ownership, it is ordinarily the people that hoard animals, don’t spay or neuter or take care of their animals otherwise that cause issues for other good people that are responsible, respectable cat owners. No matter what we do, or what type of ordinance is in place, this will most likely remain the same – as it has since people have existed.
One big question seems to be, if a cat owner is only allowed a certain number of cats, what will happen to the really good people that foster cats in order to ensure that they are not needlessly euthanized? If foster homes are only allowed a certain number of cats, then more felines could be in danger of not being rescued! That is really a shame!
As for cat owners having to keep their cat on a leash, good luck. Have you ever tried to control a cat on a leash? It is worse than an untrained dog.
Cats are free-willed animals. They are adventurous and like to roam. The only danger they really pose is to themselves by getting into fights with other felines or other animals. Otherwise, cats are quite independent.
Fining cat owners will not make any friends for the city government officials. If this world knew what was good for it, everyone would simply try to get along, take care of one-another and the animals of this world. They would not be segregating certain breeds or races of animals or humans and establishing what should happen to them and their families. Sometimes these ordinances just seem like small wars that responsible humans have to face for it will be the responsible individuals getting caught, not the ones that caused the issues in the first place!
