Randy Pitchford today posted new SHiFT codes for use inside “Borderlands 2” to grant players free golden keys. The keys may then be redeemed in the game to grant fans free rare loot to use in the popular co-op shooter. The Gearbox Software President often hands out the free SHiFT codes to fans even month after the initial release of “Borderlands 2.”
Golden keys allow players to open a locked loot chest inside the city of Sanctuary. Unlocking the chest permanently consumes the golden key and guarantees a rare, level appropriate, piece of gear. Since the gear acquired with a golden key scales with a player’s level, it’s advised to wait on using the key until late in the game to ensure a good high-level piece of equipment. “Borderlands 2” is out now on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC/Mac. This past weekend, the developer teased the title’s next DLC add-on which will bring a new playable character class to the game.
