Ordinarily, customers simply ask for saurkraut or relish, but a South Bay hot dog stand reportedly provided much more than condiments – in the form of drugs and assault weapons.
A San Jose hot dog vendor and his partner have been indicted by the federal court for allegedly selling methamphetamines and weapons from two hot dog stands in East San Jose. They were arraigned Thursday in U.S. District Court in San Jose.
San Jose resident Jose “Chepe” Gilberto Ortiz, 58, and his partner, Guillermo “El Gallo” Gonzalez Castillo, 23, of Los Angeles, were nabbed in an undercover operation by San Jose police earlier this year, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
In addition to selling the undercover cop a cache of weapons and and a quarter pound of meth, Ortiz is a felon, and Castillo is an illegal immigrant who had already been deported by U.S. Immigration officials in 2008, the indictment reads. Neither is legally allowed to own or possess any firearms.
The pair was nabbed on September 2 and could face years in state prison if convicted.
