Moral failure: Ron Paul supporters give racism a pass

Why do Ron Paul supporters continue to excuse and minimize Ron Paul's obvious affiliation with racists and white supremacists?

The evidence for Ron Paul being a racist sympathizer is overwhelming and incontrovertible. On Tuesday, The New Republic released another cache of controversial newsletters published by Paul that only reaffirms the now tired truth that Paul panders to and solicits support from racists, homophobes and antisemites.

In the 1980's and 1990's Paul published a series of newsletters written in the first person and published under his name that were filled with the most obnoxious bigotry, racism, homophobia and antisemitism.

Paul claims he did not write or approve of the racist, antisemitic and homophobic material appearing in the string of controversial newsletters published under his name. Yet it is hard to believe that Paul would sell and profit from a newsletter bearing his name without being aware of and approving of the content.

Ron Paul: Incompetent, or a liar?

If one believes Paul’s claim that he did not write or know about the obnoxious content being written and published in his name, than one must conclude that Paul is grossly incompetent. How can citizens expect Paul to run the country if he lacks the competence to run his own newsletter?

The choice seems clear: Either Paul was grossly incompetent and did not review what was being written and published in his name; or he is a bigot, or at the very least a cynical and immoral politician willing to pander to other bigots for votes and profit.

Anyway you spin it, Paul is unfit for any public office.

The Cult of Ron Paul: Self Deception, Intellectual Dishonesty and Willful Ignorance

Given the preponderance of evidence, one must conclude that Ron Paul supporters are racist bigots, brainwashed, or both.

Ron Paul supporters try to excuse, deny and obfuscate Paul's history of racism and bigotry. Their position is simply irrational. Indeed, Paul supporters lost the argument a long time ago. Their ability to continue to sustain the denial despite the stream of constant and overwhelming proof of Paul's racist past and racist associations is simply astonishing.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. The evidence is overwhelming. The willful ignorance of the Ron Paul supporter is more like that of a religious fanatic than a political supporter. The situation is curious, to say the least.

The moral failure of the Ron Paul supporter is clear. Explaining that moral failure remains elusive.
