Moore, Johnson lead Bulls as they clinch fifth straight South title

The Durham Bulls are division champions again.

Matt Moore struck out 10 Norfolk Tides batters in six innings, while Dan Johnson’s two-run homer in the first inning proved to be all the scoring the Bulls needed in a 4-1 road win Friday night.

The win gave Charlie Montoyo’s club its fifth straight title in the International League’s South Division, setting up a best-of-5 Governors’ Cup Playoff semifinal series with the West Division champion Columbus Clippers beginning Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Leslie Anderson added an RBI double and Tim Beckham an RBI single for the Bulls.

Moore got his fourth win in as many decisions, while Chris Tillman (3-6) took the loss. Rob Delaney picked up his 13th save as the last 14 Norfolk batters went down in order before the Bulls got to spray their champagne.

Game 2 of the four-game series with the Tides is Saturday night at 7:15, with lefty Alex Torres (9-7, 3.14) taking the hill for Durham.
