James Damon Black, 23, was arrested on Tuesday at his home located at 620 Maplewood Lane, in West End, N.C. and charged with felony animal cruelty in the death of his dog.
According to wral.com, authorities found the dog in Black's home along with evidence that the dog was beaten to death.
The dog's body has been taken to Animal Control for further testing.
As the link between animal cruelty and violence towards humans becomes more apparent, investigators routinely use animal cruelty reports in their profile assessments. The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) provides free legal assistance from their staff of attorneys to prosecutors and law enforcement officials to ensure animal cruelty convictions and appropriate sentences.
Black is being held at the Moore County Detention Center in lieu of a $5,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 14.
