Don't miss the December 15th meeting of the New Mexico Roadrunners Travel Club. The presentation will be of particular interest to those wishing to see and learn more of the Great Southwest.
The topic will be a road trip from Albuquerque through Gallup and Flagstaff up to Utah. This is one of the most scenic drives in the United States, passing through the Vermillion Cliffs, through a Fundamentalist LDS community in Southern Utah on the way to beautiful St. George. St. George could be thought of as an amalgamation of Sedona and Albuquerque. The Red Rocks of Sedona and the wonderful weather of Albuquerque.
From St. George the trip winds through the south end of Zion National Park, past Glen Canyon and Lake Powell, back onto the Navajo Reservation heading north from Kayenta into the remarkable beauty of photogenic Monument Valley.
The images from Monument Valley turned out great, with a photographic record of a 20 hour stay including the late afternoon light, sunset, a spectacular sunrise and early morning to mid-morning desert light. The highlights of a 3.3 mile walk around the Mittens and a 17 mile drive through the heart of the Valley will offer a variety of views in the tribal park. The view from the wonderful View Hotel in Monument is one you will not soon forget.
The drive back to Albuquerque passed majestic Shiprock and ended the day in the surprising red rock area just north of Bernalillo.
There will be plenty of time after the photo presentation to answer questions from anyone interested in making this fabulous week long journey, including recommendations for hotels, where to buy gas, places to eat, etc.
And, remember, the meeting is free with no obligation of any kind. We don’t take up a collection and you don’t have to buy anything. Just come enjoy the slide show, meet some friendly travelers and ask any travel questions you might have. If we don’t have the answers we probably know where to find them. The words inscribed over the entrance to my freshman year college library said something like “half of knowledge is knowing where to find it.”
Meeting location: Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center, just south of Eubank Costco between Juan Tabo & Eubank at 1 pm.
The presentation will be repeated at 6:30 pm at the new North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center on Carmel, just north of the Wyoming/Paseo intersection. Thursday, December 15th - Don't miss it!
