Walk toward the light! The best and brightest street in Baltimore tomorrow will be Charles Street. Matt Stover, former Baltimore Raven, has the honor of clicking the magical switch that will ignite the heart of Baltimore! This starts the season! Baltimore will be lighting up one of its prized and most memorable monuments. The monument itself may be 182 years old, but tomorrow it will be lit for the 40th time! An annual tradition; the Lighting of the Washington Monument festivities begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. on December 1, 2011. Activities last until 8:00 p.m. Neighboring museums and establishments will be hosting special events during that time as well. What a sight to behold. This year marks the big 4 - 0 for this spectacular tradition. Lots of entertainment and food will be part of this event in addition to the spectacle of elaborate fireworks!
It's a perfect event to start the holiday season and well worth driving in rush hour traffic after work to get there on time.
This statue, that is more than a monument, had its first stone laid in 1815 by designer, Robert Mills. This is the same individual who designed the great monument in Washington, D.C. It took a mere fourteen years to complete. Take the kids, show them the artistry in the monument and grounds themselves. Share the history!
