A city of indie music may soon become a city of indie music awards as Montreal is well represented at the 2010 edition of the Indie Music awards, to be given out during Canadian Music Week in March. Montreal artists are nominated in a string of categories, not even counting the expected dominance within the favourite francophone artist/group category.

Among the local nominees are the Handsome Furs and Patrick Watson and the Wooden Arms in the favourite artist/duo category. They’ll be competing with two bands who have also been based in Montreal at one time or another, Metric and Tegan and Sara. Local songstress Coeur de Pirate will be representing in the favourite solo artist category.

Other Montreal nominees include Gerald Finley in the favourite classical artist/group category. Two Montrealers share the favourite electronic artist/group category, as A-Trak and Tiga grabbed nominations. Another shared category is favourite metal artist group as Voivod and Augury are both nominated. Oliver Jones also cracked the nominee pool in the favourite jazz artist/group category.

A few Quebec natives, Angele Dubeau and Karina Gauvin, were also nominated, both in the favourite classical artist/group category.
