On Sept 26 2013, animal advocates Nadine Leblanc and Robert Boisvert will be hosting the Fourth Event of 269Life in Montreal. It will take place at What a Tattoo located at 990 rue Sherbrooke in Lachine. Tattoo artist Sean Brunet will be doing this event for the second time. He tattooed supporters of the 269life movement this past February in Ottawa. Co founder of Kebek Animal Rights Association, Marion Achoulias, Nicole Joncas and several activists of the Ottawa Animal Defense League got tattooed on that day.
According to the event page, it explains that the reason for getting the 269 mark is to show the commitment for a lifetime to actions that dismantle the animal holocaust. “We take this action in an attempt to move the animal liberation agenda to the forefront of the public consciousness. We therefore show our commitment and solidarity by tattooing our bodies with the number 269.”
The importance of the number 269 for vegans
Almost one year ago, on Oct 2 2012, three animal rights activists performed an act of solidarity and empathy towards abused animals in factory farms. According to a press release, at Rabin Square in Tel Aviv, the activists endured a common practice done towards innocent animals in factory farms all around the world. The activists got branded with a hot steel brand, the same way farm animals are branded in factory farms. They were then rushed to Ichilov hospital to be treated for 3rd degree burns. The display's aim is to call for empathy towards the most oppressed sector of society.
The number 269, was the number of a calf they had encountered in one of Israel's factory farms. That same calf was then later liberated.
