Montoya and crew head to Homestead for Sprint Cup finale

Regardless of what happens Sunday, regardless of where Juan Montoya and the #42 team finish in the race, and regardless of where they finish in the points 2009 this without doubt has been a successful Sprint Cup campaign.

With 7 top five’s, 18 top ten’s, an average start of 12.5, and an average finish of 13.6 on top of the 5.1 million dollars in purse money won, 2009 was a very good year for Juan and crew.

The only thing missing is a win, sure they came close at the Brickyard, and sure they were in contention for a few others, but this is a team that just needs to win.

In all reality the 2009 season is already over for this team, they cannot win the Cup title, after qualifying 23rd earlier today he cannot win his third pole of 2009, but he and his team can still go out and win the final 2009 Sprint Cup race.

We should all be expecting Montoya and his #42 team do be very aggressive in Sunday’s race. He was second fastest in the opening practice and while that did not turn into a good qualifying lap, Juan’s car may be very good in race conditions.

For this team to take the next step they must win a race, and they should try and get that done on Sunday. Then they can head into the 2009 season with a win under their belt, the education they have received on how to win a Sprint Cup title, and a new teammate in Jamie McMurray.
