Just twenty miles west of the city of Champaign, Illinois (home of the University of Illinois) is the town of Monticello, a town named after the famous home of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. On the outskirts of this town is the Monticello Railway Museum. Before you even enter the museum, there is a short steam locomotive waiting to greet you as you turn in. You drive down the road, and you see rail cars and locomotives up ahead. You park the car, and you walk around. You have the 404 Post Office Baggage Car. You see the 518 Illinois Central Baggage Car. Then you go by the 191 Republic Steel steam locomotive. By the way, this is just a small handful of the fleet at the museum. You take a walk around the station that is nearby wait for that train to come, and if you get there at the right time, you can catch a train.
The Monticello Railway Museum is located at 992 Iron Horse Place which is just of I-72 (Exit 166) and is open from May to October plus open for Christmas events in December.
