Manti Te'o and his parents will give Katie Couric an exclusive interview (Video)

Manti Te'o hasn't spoken out much about the recent controversy concerning Lennay Kekua outside of official statements. However, zap2it.com reported on Jan. 20 that Te'o and his parents will give Katie Couric an exclusive interview concerning the scandal.

Just months ago, Te'o became a beloved college football legend when conducted an interview telling the nation that his grandmother and girlfriend had just died, each of cancer. He then went out and delivered a spectacular performance to cement that legend.

However, when Deadspin broke the news that the girlfriend never really existed, it has given Te'o a black eye that he may never recover from. Te'o has remained steadfast that the prank was pulled on him, that he and his girlfriend only spoke online and never met in person, and that this was a cruel hoax played by someone else. He said he is a victim.

However, Notre Dame said that Te'o told them about the hoax and they went into spin control. The problem is that Notre Dame said Te'o told them about the hoax on one day, and then a few days later he did an interview concerning his Heisman Trophy hopes, and mentioned the "dead girlfriend" again.

That makes this upcoming interview by Katie Coutic one that should pull in high ratings. Coming just one week after Lance Armstrong admitted to Oprah Winfrey that he doped over his career, this will be two interviews in the course of two weeks with former sports heroes shamed in the public eye.

The interview will air on Thursday, Jan. 24 and it will give America the first time to hear Manti Te'o speak publicly about the scandal.
