Today has been a day filled with concert announcements. Earlier today, The Maintenance Shop in Ames officially announced its spring schedule of shows. Now, new music events have been announced for a number of Des Moines concert venues. Here is a look at those new shows.
At just after noon today, Prairie Meadows Racetrack, Casino, and Hotel in Altoona announced that country superstars Montgomery Gentry (featured below) would be playing their venue in April. The concert is set for 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, and pre-sale tickets go become available on January 15 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. Tickets go on sale to the general public on January 17 at 10 a.m. Ticket prices will range from $44 to $74 plus taxes and fees. This will be a 21-and-older concert event.
Four of music's biggest legends, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley once recorded music together thanks to the man who discovered all four performers, Sam Phillips. The musical "Million Dollar Quartet" tells that story from March 19 through March 24 at the Des Moines Civic Center. The musical will feature classic hits like "Blue Suede Shoes", "Fever", "Sixteen Tons", "Who Do You Love?", "Great Balls of Fire", "Matchbox", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On", "Hound Dog", and more. Tickets for eight performances go on sale on to the general public on Monday, January 14, through Ticketmaster and will be priced from $35 to $55 plus taxes and fees. Performances are open to anyone over five years old, and group rates may be available. Go to the Civic Center website for more information.
Hairball won't be waiting for summer to play the Iowa State Fair this year. That's right, one of Iowa's favorite 80's rock impersonation acts will be playing the State Fair's Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center on Saturday, February 2, at 8 p.m. From Bon Jovi to Guns 'N' Roses, Def Leppard to Kiss, Journey to Motley Crue, Hairball does them all. Tickets are $15 in advance and $23 the day of the show. Tickets may be purchased at the Fair's Administrative Building or online through the Iowa State Fair's website. Des Moines party band Gimmick will open the show.
First Fleet Concerts announced two more concerts coming to Des Moines East Village venue Wooly's earlier today. Greensky Bluegrass will play Wooly's on February 22 at 9 p.m. Tickets for this 21-and-over show will be $15 and are available at the Wooly's box office and online through TicketFly. Scandinavian death metal band Opeth brings their North American Heritage Tour to Wooly's on May 15 at 8 p.m. Swedish metalheads Katatonia will serve as openers. Tickets for this all ages show are $25 in advance and $28 the day of the show. They may be purchased at the Wooly's box office or through Ticketfly. Tickets for both shows went on sale today.
