PHILADELPHIA-A Pennsylvania student recently took home regional gold recently. David Blair, a student at Wordsworth Academy in Fort Washington, PA, recently won first place in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region SkillsUSA competition. SkillsUSA, which is the name of the national competition of the Vocational & Industrial Clubs of America (VICA), is a competition for high school students to show off their vocational and/or industrial experience. SkillsUSA competitions encourage high school students to give it. their all with their vocational studies.
Blair entered the competition through a dual enrollment program sponsored by Wordsworth through Eastern Center for Arts and Technology. Eastern, an independent technical school located in Willow Grove, PA, serves high school and college students. Eastern offers transferable college credits for its high school students that are attending. Students from selected high schools across Montgomery County are offered the oppourtunity to attend Eastern-funding fully paid for by their school or school district-if their academics and behavior are up to par. Eastern offers programs in the fields of commercial arts, automotive maintenance, horticulture/landscaping, industrial technology, and other fields.
Blair, before attending Eastern, was previously enrolled in an on campus tech program at Wordsworth called the Multi Media Design program. Blair created professional-grade PhotoShop projects, learned the ins and outs of a Sony DSLR camera, made professional-grade video projects using a Sony HandyCam AVCHD video camera and edited those projects using Adobe Premiere Pro. David is proficient in Adobe Creative Suites 4 and 5.
