Hiking and walking are two great activities that families can enjoy at Monte Sano. The park features many walking and hiking trails, featuring varying degrees of difficulty from easy to hard. Some walking and hiking trails even feature access for disabled park visitors.
Historic railroad display is part of park
Close to the main entrance at Monte Sano, there is a display featuring the historic Monte Sano railroad. This railroad no longer exists but trails featuring the old road bed for the railroad are still accessible for hiking and walking. The display features a section of old track as well as other memorabilia from the road.
Pack a picnic for your family
Families can also pack a picnic lunch they carried to the park with them. Picnic facilities are available, but picnic lunches can also be enjoyed among the many trails and other locations throughout the park.
Planetarium takes a look at the stars
The Von Braun Planetarium is also located at the State Park. This planetarium hosts shows featuring North Alabama on Saturday nights when available.
