A Montana man is under arrest after authorities in that state busted him for the largest case of hoarding in history.
Mike Chilinskiis likely facing jail time on multiple charges of animal cruelty after agents with the Lewis and Clark Humane Society recovered 140 malamutes, 10 of which are pregnant, and 20 puppies from his property.
Dogs were not all that Chilinski was keeping in large quantities on his property. Officials also found more 200 marijuana plants growing.
The good news is that the dogs, despite the less than hospitable conditions under which many of them were housed, are healthy. The less positive news is that the humane society that rescued them is in desperate need of financial help.
Gina Wies, the society’s director is quoted by station KFBB-TV as saying:
This is going to be a pretty expensive proposition. And the Humane Society of the United States has stepped up to the plate and has made a very generous donation for us to use for supplies and employees and what not. But this could go on for a long time.
The problems of shelter overcrowding and financial shortfalls are sadly becoming the rule rather than the exception nationwide. This in turn is leading to widespread euthanasia of perfectly healthy animals.
If you would like to make a donation in the current case, you can contact the Lewis and Clark Humane Society by visiting their website or by calling 406-442-1660.
