Lady Griz, now 6-4 in conference play, are tied with Northern Colorado for fourth place in the Big Sky.

Saturday, February 4 the Lady Griz basketball team beat the Montana State Bobcats in Bozeman, Mont. 61-54 but it wasn’t that easy. With slightly over two minutes in regulation, Montana had only a one point lead. UM’s Alyssa Smith hit a 3-pointer only to have Montana State’s Ashley Albert answer cutting the Lady Griz lead to two....but, Montana’s Torry Hill tossed in another trey and hung to the lead. It was an exciting effort by both teams but Montana came out on top in the end by making free throws and a few more 3-pointers.
Top scorers for UM were Katie Baker with 19 points, Alyssa Smith with 11 points and eight rebounds; Torry Hill added 10 points. For MSU, Ashley Albert had 19 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Rachel Semansky finished with 13 points.

The Lady Griz shot 37 percent from the field to the Bobcats’ 31 percent. UM had 48 rebounds to MSU’s 43 and UM’s bench scored 11 points to MSU’s 6.

Monday, February 6 turned into a loss for Montana and secured a spot in the post season tournament for the Bengals. Idaho State was coming off a loss to Montana State but managed to hang on to beat Montana 54-48. Montana played well and shot well from behind the arc. What went wrong? Montana committed 19 turnovers and missed six of nine free throws. There were six lead changes and the game was tied four times but Idaho State lead the final 14 minutes and sealed the win.
UM was again led by Katie Baker with 17 points and Torry Hill with 13 points. Jordan Sullivan and Kenzie De Boer both recorded five rebounds. ISU was led by Kaela Oakes with 16 points and Ashleigh Vella who had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. ISU added to their advantage by shooting 35 percent to UM’s 34 and ISU pulled in 45 rebounds to UM’s 36.
