While the Atlanta Hawks will not be kicking off their NBA season this weekend at Philips Arena, several Hawks players can be found nearby at an exhibition to benefit local Atlanta kids.
Hawks reserve Damien Wilkins will be hosting the “Monster Slam” exhibition at Clark Atlanta University on Saturday, November 5. The event is designed to raise funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, which Wilkins has cited as having a profound impact on him growing up.
The free fanfest portion will begin at 1:00 PM, with tip-off slated for 3:00 PM.
In addition to Wilkins, fellow Atlanta Hawks Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, and Jeff Teague will also appear and play. Other confirmed players include Anthony Morrow (Nets), Chris Wilcox (Pistons), Derrick Favors (Jazz), James Harden (Thunder), Jarrett Jack (Hornets), Jeff Green (Celtics), Jonny Flynn (Rockets), Jordan Crawford (Wizards), Lou Williams (76ers), Mike Beasley (Timberwolves), Rudy Gay (Grizzlies), Russell Westbrook (Thunder), Shannon Brown (Lakers), and Trey Thompkins (Clippers).
Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.damienwilkinsmonsterslam.eventbrite.com or on the day of the game at the Clark Atlanta box office. Advance ticket prices are $5 for students, $10 for adults and $20 for VIP seating behind the bench.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of America is a great organization, one that also had a big impact on me growing up as well – I went to the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club for several years while growing up in New York.
This is a great way to raise money for a good cause and to see some of your Atlanta Hawks and other NBA players – even if it is not as usual as one would expect during the NBA’s tip-off week.
