Named after the town of Dover in Massachusetts, the Dover Demon was first seen in 1977. According to the legend, several teenagers driving home late at night when their car’s headlights suddenly illuminated the creature, which was supposedly skulking near a bar. This and subsequent sightings led to local write-ups in small-town newspapers, which dubbed the creature the “Dover Demon.”

According to the original teens who saw it, the creature’s principal feature was is disproportionally large, watermelon-shaped head. The Dover Demon was also said to have bright, luminous orange eyes and tan, hairless skin. The creature is asexual and plain, often described as lacking a nose, ears, or even a mouth. Variations in description include the creature having chalky gray skin and green eyes. Some claim that despite a mouth that the creature exudes a bloodcurdling screech similar that to a hawk, along with a snake-like hiss when approached.

Although there have been no recent sightings of the creature, with the 1977 sighting as the one most referenced, the Dover Demon continues to fascinate UFO researchers and cryptologists. Some theories about the creature include that it may be of extraterrestrial origin, a failed experiment of some kind, or simply of the myriad creatures of folklore that hide in the shadows waiting for discovery.
