James Napier, 38, a Cincinnati man appeared in a Hamilton County courthouse today. He is facing five child rape charges and 20 federal charges alleging that he produced child pornography. The court set Napier’s bond at $1.5 million.
A federal indictment alleges that in 2009, Napier molested an 11-month old infant and recorded it before placing it on the Internet. Allegations also include charges from 2012 that involved Napier sexually molesting a 9-year old girl and taping the crime.
Authorities arrested Napier in January after learning that he tried to sell child pornography on the Internet.
Napier could spend more than 30 years in prison if convicted of all charges.
Project Safe Childhood, an initiative that protects children form online predators led to Napier’s indictment. An investigation continues to find out if Napier victimized other children.
Many law enforcement agencies worked together to bring Napier to justice. He will appear in a federal court next Monday.
Cincinnati’s Channel 12 News reported that Napier even fooled his current girlfriend, whose identity they didn’t reveal. Before the authorities presented her with evidence, she thought he was an excellent father.
Once she learned about his crimes, she referred to him as a monster. Channel 12 News also reported that Napier tried to sell more than 100 movies with more than 6,000 pictures of children involved in sexual acts. Napier is being held in Hamilton County.
