Monotheism

What is ‘monotheism and when it start? First, ‘monotheism’ is the belief in one God. Second what we think is that it started way before Jesus and the Christians. There are those who believe the Christians were the first to believe in One God? Were they?

Going way back we find a few men who like Jesus also believed in ‘monotheism.‘ One God. There was Amenhotep IV, a Egyptian Pharaoh known as possibly the first person to believe in one God. Since the God he believed in was the Aten, the Sun God, he changed his name to Akhenaton, which means "the Servant of Aten."

During his reign, he got rid of the belief in many Gods and for his 17 years as Pharaoh of Egypt the law was to worship one God and so Aton, the Sun God became the one and only God of Egypt.

However, when Akhenaton died, around 1336 BC or 1334 BC, the ones left in charge destroyed everything that he had believed in and the law of many Gods was restored along with all the old religious traditions they once had.

Not only did Akhenaton believe in one God, so did Zarathustra, a Persian prophet. He called his God, Ahura Mazda, which means, ‘Wise Lord,’ and referred to him as the creator of all that is good. Sound familiar? So he too is a ‘monotheist,’ and so his God and his religious beliefs were now a law in Persia. But like Akhenaton, all his laws and beliefs were destroyed and again the worship of many Gods restored.

So do you think 'monotheist' is a good thing?
