Monocacy National Battlefield 147th Anniversary Celebration

This weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 9-10 July 2011, the National Parks Service will be celebrating the 147th anniversary of the Battle of Monocacy, near Frederick, Maryland. Several events are scheduled on the Monocacy Battlefield:

Visit the Best Farm Slave Village archeological site 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. each day. Learn about the exciting discoveries from last year and see what is being uncovered now.

Artillery Demonstrations:

  • Saturday – 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
  • Sunday – 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.

Author signings at the visitor center on Saturday include:

  • Ranger Brett Spaulding - Last Chance For Victory, Jubal Early's 1864 Maryland Invasion.
  • Gail Stephens – Shadow of Shiloh – Major General Lew Wallace in the Civil War.

Debate: Union or Disunion – Saturday 1:30 p.m. on steps of the Gambrill House.

The park visitor center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Trails are open until dusk. For more information call 301-662-3515.
