Just about everybody predicts the Super Bowl, even if they don't have a dog in the hunt, so to speak. But some are just as content to leave the pigskin prognostications to animals. This year, monkeys, manatees, camels, and cats got in on the picking of the winner of Super Bowl XLVII between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers (set to play on Sunday, Feb. 3).
ABC's "GMA Live!" turned to Frankie the Saki monkey for their pick. Senior biologist T’Noya Gonzales handled Frankie from Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas. When Frankie was given the choice of choosing between two iPads with the logos of the opposing Super Bowl teams, the little guy scampered over and chose the San Francisco 49ers.
Bradenton Patch reports that the duo of Hugh and Buffett, both manatees housed at the Mote Marine Aquarium in Sarasota, Fla., chose the Baltimore Ravens. Buffett has chosen the winner of the last five Super Bowls.
A Bactrian came that resides at Popcorn Park Zoo in Lacey Township, N.J., agrees with the manatees. Princess seems to favor the older Harbaugh brother, John, who manages the Ravens, over younger brother, Jim.
According to KCBS in San Francisco, which has an extensive lists of animal predictions, Mr. Nuts the Cat (from Fremont), turned tail on the 49ers as well, using a litter box (his preferred prediction method) to chose the Ravens as winners.
But the 49ers had a few cat fans as well. The cat trio of Galaga, Moro and Zila in Portland, Oregon, all chose a red bowl full of food designated for San Francisco when given the choice.
They also had support from a somewhat local orangutan. Saibu at the Fresno Zoo went to a box containing to team blankets and immediately pulled out a 49ers blanket.
But orangutans, like humans, don't always agree. Elijah at the Hogle Zoo in Utah knocked over a paper placard with the Ravens logo on it. Elijah, like Buffett the manatee, has picked the last five Super Bowl winners as well.
Emma the Otter, who swims around down in the Audubon Aquarium in New Orleans, home of Super Bowl XLVII, picked the 49ers. (KCBS accused Emma of having insider information.)
Finally, KULR and CNN report that Ozzy the Grizzly Bear, who hangs out at ZooMontana in Billings, chose a banana pie marked for the Baltimore Ravens. And though some might question his pick, whose really going to argue with a 400-pound Grizzly Bear?
So if you go with the big guy (the bear), the other two big guys (the manatees, especially Buffett, whose been on a five-year roll), and Elijah the orangutan (also on a five-year roll), it looks like the Ravens just might take a Lombardi Trophy for 2013. Still, the 49ers have a few fans in the animal kingdom as well. That would include humans.
Over at Bovada and BetOnline.com, the professional oddsmakers are with San Francisco. The 49ers have a 3.5 point advantage over the Ravens.
