What a strange name for a snack, right? This recipe was adapted from the one shown on Jon and Kate plus Eight. Children seem to really enjoy this snack. Adults will enjoy it as well. It is made with Chex cereal, however the store brand works great too! You can get creative any try it with other cereals as well, Maybe: Life or Golden Grahams!
Monkey Munch Snack
- 9 cups Chex cereal, heaping
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi sweet), heaping
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup margarine
- 1 to 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Empty cereal into a LARGE bowl and set aside.
In a microwave safe bowl combine chips, peanut butter and margarine. Heat for 1 minute on high, stirring after 30 seconds.
Remove after 1 minute and stir until there are no lumps. If you need to pop it back in, do so and stir until there are no lumps.
Pour mix over cereal and stir it in well. All cereal pieces should be coated with the melted mix.
Add powdered sugar over the coated cereal and mix until coated.
Store air tight in the refrigerator.

This sounds so yummy. I think I'll make it this afternoon.
This snake was definitely not invented on the Jon and Kate show - there have been "trail mix" formulas and suggestions in books for the past fifty years!
heh heh - that should be SNACK...not snake :(
Yes I think Kate is getting too much credit for this one
I knew it had been around. Many people have different names for it too. Some call it puppy chow or people chow and I have heard several other names since my post. That is just the first place I saw the snack. Im sure she did not INVENT it :-)
This sounds really yummy and easy.
Hi, Deanna. I took a huge amount of monkey munch to our homeschool fellowship yesterday, and everyone LOVED it and asked me to forward the recipe to them. Some folks even bagged it up and took it with them! Thanks for giving me a quick, easy, and delicious recipe that I can share.
Wow! I am so happy to hear that news! You are very welcome I am thrilled to help :-)
Love this recipe! I have many fond memories of backing and snacking on "Puppy Chow," as my friends and I called it when we were younger. :)
