"Hey, hey, we are the Monkees, we've said it all before, the money's in, we're made of tin, we're here to give you more. The money's in, we're made of tin, we're here to give you ..." -- "Ditty Diego -- War Chant" from the "Head" soundtrack.

As much as I like the Monkees, I can't convince myself to by a 3-CD expansion of an album with 20 minutes of music.
The box set is not just only the music from the movie. It also includes alternate takes, radio promos, live selections from the Salt Lake City concert that 'Circle Sky' came from and the ultra rare promo interview album with Davy Jones talking about the movie that was given only to radio stations and is considered perhaps the rarest of all Monkees collectibles. Also in the set is a special 45 vinyl single of instrumental versions of 'Porpoise Song' and 'As We Go Along' and an excellent booklet with extensive liner notes. Plus, Rhino beautifully recreated the mylar 'Head' cover.
Nice interview with Sandoval. I have both box sets of the 'Head' soundtrack and the Criterion DVD set which includes the remastered version of the movie. Both are very well done and are excellent showcases for the most creative project the Monkees ever did.
Thanks for the article with Mr. Sandoval. His liner notes alone are worthy of getting the re-issues. I am glad to hear that the new CD has an upgrade on the original CD. Now I want it, but I wish it wasn't so pricey.
Also was hoping "Head" Blu-ray would be released separately because of the cost of that set. Funny how they (BBS) had to be petioned to include it, when this would be the reason most are getting this set. (The artwork on the Blu-ray doesn't even mention The Monkees, and yes Bob - we noticed!)
I thought the Monkees TV series box sets were out of print because Amazon and other sites only have them used from other sellers.
I really hope Rhino does a restoration on the TV series. One feature I would have liked would have been to play the different audio track for the shows that were re-dubbed with different music. (like having "Forget That Girl" instead of I'm a Believer" in the "One Man Shy" episode where Peter was in love with a debutante.)
Maybe the success of these re-issues will convince Rhino to make it happen!
yes, I also wish it was not so pricey......the "Birds" boxed set seems to be universally praised by other commentators online who have reviewed it.......I only have 10 dollars to my name right now, am living on unemployment and food stamps, and have been forced to move in w/mommy to survive, and she is broke too! :(
......any chance you can donate one to a "close-to-homeless" person?
Got something to say?
