Monique Evans will represent Texas at the 2015 Miss America Pageant. She was crowned Miss Texas 2014 on Saturday night at Eisemann Center in Richardson, following four days of pageantry.

"I could not have achieved this great privilege if it weren't for the love and support of my friends and family," she wrote Sunday in an Instagram message. "I feel blessed to have them in my life."

Earlier in pageant week, Evans was named winner of a preliminary competition in talent. Contestants at state, local and national levels within the Miss America Organization are judged in competitions based on talent, interview, evening gowns and swimsuits.

Evans was the reigning Miss Park Cities at the time of her crowning as Miss Texas. In local preliminaries, she won in both the talent and evening gown categories.

Evans, 21, is a pre-med student at the University of Texas at Austin. She is also a professionally trained ballerina. Her pageant platform is, “Remember Your Heart, One Beat at a Time.”

A new Miss America will be crowned on Sept. 14. The final night of pageantry and the crowning of a new Miss America will be broadcast live from Atlantic City by the ABC television network. While East Coast viewers enjoy live coverage, a tape-delayed broadcast will follow for West Coast viewers.

If Evans is crowned Miss America, she will become the fourth titleholder from Texas to win the national title. Previous Miss America titleholders include Miss Texas 1974 Shirley Cothran, Miss Texas 1970 Phyllis George, and Miss Texas 1942 Jo-Carrell Dennison. Last year’s Miss Texas winner, Ivana Hall, finished in the top 10 at the Miss America Pageant.

Also on Saturday, Kassidy Brown was crowned Miss Texas's Outstanding Teen 2014. She will travel to Orlando, Florida later this month to compete in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant.

The teen pageant is the younger-sister competition within the Miss America Organization. Contestants are ages 13-17 years old. Contestants are judged in competitions based on interview, talent, evening gowns, and active wear.
