After weeks of intense training in his hometown of Gilroy, CA, the six-time, four-division World Champ Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero arrived in Las Vegas Sunday. Monday, bright and early, the Las Vegas training camp began for this super lightweight.
Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs) is hoping to be the first to dethrone the eight-time, four-division and current WBC Welterweight World Champion Floyd "Money" Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO's). Their championship showdown will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Saturday, May 4, 2013, live on Showtime.
Guerrero’s comments after Monday’s workout: "The first day of camp is in the books and my body is filling out perfectly. I'm feeling extremely strong right now. I will have all my bases covered for this fight and I'm leaving no stone unturned. Believe me, Floyd is in trouble and there is nothing he can do to escape the punishment I'm going to give him. God has put me in this position for a reason and May 4th can't come soon enough."
The so-called mega-event will also feature another mismatch between Daniel Ponce de Leon, a left-handed featherweight, going up against Abner Mares, the smaller, right handed bantamweight in a 12-rounder for Ponce de Leon's WBC World Featherweight title. Another example of a big man facing the smaller and less experienced man.
