The Bible has a beautiful verse that says: a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions (Luke 12:15). How wonderful it is to know that true happiness and success are not grounded in wealth or possessions alone. This is not to say that wealth is wrong; after all God loves to pour out blessings upon us; rather it is to help us understand and appreciate that God is the source of true happiness and freedom. It is also meant to warn us not to become greedy and corrupt.
Mother Teresa of Calcutta dedicated her life to caring for the sick and poor, and it is obvious that no one would ever dispute her faithfulness or success in this life. You see God looks at the heart and he desires for people to love and serve each other in this life. There are so many scriptures that point to this very fact. Jesus said that if we gave a cup of water to a thirsty person we are actually giving it to him. Jesus was filled with compassion, mercy and kindness and he is our perfect example in this life.
When we are born-again the spirit of God comes to live within our hearts. Romans 5:5 says that the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts! God is love! It is not a part of his personality instead it is his very essence.
Now it is true that we love to give good things to our children and how much more does God want to give us good things, but things are not everything! God’s love is actually everything! That may sound strange or simplistic but all of God’s creation came out of God’s perfect love, try and fathom that fact.
This article is focused on God’s love and it is not simply talking about being cheery or positive rather it is referring to depending on God’s anointed strength and power in this life. It involves ups and downs, good times and bad. Real peace and joy come from depending on the Holy Spirit to empower and guide us by his spirit and word.
There will be times of sadness in this life but God will never leave us nor forsake us! We may not always have a lot of money or possessions but God is there for us! He was with Daniel in the Lions Den and with Paul in prison. He knows your heart friend and he is there to comfort you. He is the great comforter. God bless you all!
