FringeNYC XIV opened August 13, 2010 with vigor and enthusiasm. One of the first plays to rush through the weekend gates on August 14th, was the revival of Felipe Ossa’s Monetizing Emma, which premiered at Planet Connections Theatre Festivity 2009. Through the 2009 festival, the play has already been recognized with awards for "Outstanding Playwriting for a New Script of a Play" (Felipe Ossa), "Outstanding Direction" (Leah Bonvissuto), and "Outstanding Overall Production of a New Play".

Three of the six cast members received acting awards: James Arden, for his role as Tony D'Orazio, “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play;” Janice Mann, for her role as Colleen, “Outstanding Supporting Actress;” and Daniella Rabbani, as Vanessa, was nominated for “Outstanding Performance in a Featured Role.” The credentials are stacked high for this production, now remounted during the New York International Fringe Festival 2010.

The premise of Ossa’s quirky, dramatic comedy is that an agency, Thackeray Walsh, LLC, will launch an investment and loan opportunity that capitalizes on people’s achievement from High School throughout their adult lives. The face of the project, Emma, serves as one of the teenage guinea pigs in this entrepreneurial venture and must determine the value of her own freedom.

Filled with laughs and good writing, Monetizing Emma is a well-developed and enjoyable FringeNYC show to see this season.
