Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos finally take on their first AFC West opponent on Monday night. According to CBSsportsline.com, the Broncos are 14.5 point favorites over the Oakland Raiders on Monday. The Raiders announced that defensive back Tyvon Branch is out with an injured ankle. That’s going to be a problem facing Peyton Manning on Monday night.
If there is any team fully equipped to handle the Denver Broncos, it might be the Oakland Raiders. Surprisingly, Oakland has a fairly well rounded team. They average over 198 yards per game on the ground, and Terrell Pryor gives them the ability to keep the ball away from Denver.
If the game becomes a wide open affair, the Raiders won’t have a legitimate chance to compete. That means getting the running game going early. is of the utmost importance. It should be a great battle against Denver’s run defense. The Broncos are number one against the run. They only give up 40.5 yards per game. Part of the reason is how quickly they score.
On the opposite end of the field, Peyton Manning leads a potent offensive attack. They lead the league with 376 yards per game through the air. What makes the Broncos so difficult to stop are the amount of weapons at each position.
Oakland is third in the NFL defending the pass, and they are third in overall defense. Their ability to create different looks and apply pressure on Manning is the whole key to the game.
The loss of Ryan Clady may cause the Broncos some discomfort in the pocket. As Peyton Manning’s protector and excellence in the ground attack, Clady was an essential cog to making the whole offense run smooth.
Currently Denver trails Kansas City by a half a game in the AFC West.
