Laurie Simons and Terry Sterrenberg, producers of The Healthcare Movie, have lived in both the U.S. and Canada, and have experienced both health care systems. They have two sons, one born in each country. They made the film in 2009 because they were tired of hearing the misrepresentations of the Canadian health care system.
Simons and Sterrenberg also ran into significant barriers in the U.S. when Laurie was diagnosed with malignant melanoma recently, and had to have a series of surgeries and treatments.
There will be a free screening of The Healthcare Movie at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 9 at IEBW Local 683, 23 West 2nd Avenue. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.
Producers Simons and Sterrenberg will attend the screening and lead a discussion afterward about their experiences and the differences between the U.S. and Canadian health care systems.
