Monarchs announce season-opener, other select dates

The Manchester Monarchs will be playing their 10th season in 2010-11, and they'll play their first game of the year at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Since the Los Angeles Kings moved their AHL affiliate to Manchester, the Monarchs are 5-4-0-0 in home openers.

The Monarchs will also play their traditional New Year's Eve game on Friday, Dec. 31. For the first time in franchise history, Manchester will also play a "School Day" game, which will start at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17. The game will be a field trip for participating schools, and students attending will have to fill out a workbook based on the game.

The rest of the Monarchs 2010-11 schedule will be released later this summer.
