Monarch Mountain hosts free Kid Fest 2013 this coming Sunday

Monarch Mountain will host Kid Fest 2013, which will include free activities, contests, games and prizes for kids on Sunday, Jan. 6. Kids will be able to participate in programs both on and off the snow. Registration is at 10 a.m. in the Rental and Lesson Center at the base of Monarch. Kids six and under ski free every day at Monarch, by the way.

An Activity Tent sponsored by Young Colors will be held in the Rental and Lesson Center. Face painting, coloring, helmet decorating, and other arts and crafts will be ongoing throughout the day.

At 11 a.m. a Butterfly Hunt will take place around the Children’s Center where colored butterflies will be hidden in the snow. At the count of three kids will race over to dig up the buried butterflies, some of which are worth prizes. Interactive snow sculptures will be set up for decorating and playing on.

Around 11:30 a.m. Monarch’s team of loveable Ski Patrol rescue dogs, along with Safety Sam and Smokey the Bear, will make an appearance for a meet-and-greet. Also, one of Monarch’s snowcat machines will be present to climb on, in, and around.

Monarch Sled Dog Rides return this season at Kid Fest, pulling kids around a Figure 8 course the old-fashioned way, with dogs. In order to keep the dogs happy and health only the first 50 kids that register will be able to ride.

At 2 p.m. an Expression Session will be held in the Tilt terrain park. Members of Monarch’s ski school will demonstrate proper safety protocol and technique on the various features. A jam session will follow with prizes awarded to those who have the most fun.

Closing ceremonies will be held in the Rental and Lesson Center at 3 p.m. This year’s sponsors of Kid Fest include Kaleidoscope Toys, Young Colors, Monarch Sled Dog Rides, Bolle, Mountain Khakis, and Camelbak.
