The side patio view of Mon Ami Gabi at Paris.
Mon Ami Gabi, the charming French bistro inside Paris Las Vegas, has long been a favorite dining spot amongst celebs, especially Flamingo headliner George Wallace who can never stop raving about the place. Known as much for its mouth-watering, and surprisingly affordable, menu (guests can enjoy a tender, juicy Steak Classique with maitre d’hotel butter and Mon Ami Gabi’s signature hand-cut frites for just $23.95) as its breathtaking patio view (which is not only the perfect people-watching spot, but also the perfect place to catch the Fountains of Bellagio show), Mon Ami Gabi has always been one of the hottest dining tickets in town--for lunch and dinner, that is.
However, that all changed this past April when Mon Ami Gabi opened its doors (and its patio) for breakfast. Available daily from 7-11 a.m., Executive Chef Terry Lynch’s new breakfast menu is easily one of the best in town and has already attracted such notable names as Bobby Slayton, Anthony Cools and, of course, Wallace to Mon Ami Gabi’s tables during the early morning hours (an accomplishment that shouldn’t be taken lightly given the performers’ late-night show schedules). Guests can sit outside on the 1,000-square-foot, café-style patio and enjoy a glass of fresh-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice ($3.95) or a steamy cup of café au lait ($3.75) while watching Strip passersby and deciding what to start their day with. With such tempting breakfast items as the Big Skinny Pancakes and Made-From-Scratch Waffles on the menu, it will be hard deciding on just one dish, but rest assured whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed.
Those just looking for an early morning snack should try one of Mon Ami Gabi’s Breakfast Bakes, like the yummy Pain Au Chocolat ($3.50). Although the pastry doesn’t come served warm to your table, it’s still light and flaky, not to mention surprisingly filling.
For those hungry for something more, the Butterscotch Waffle ($10.95) is a must. Crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside--just like the description says--the waffle comes served with a poached pear that’s almost as tasty as the waffle itself. Those with a bit of a sweet tooth won’t be disappointed by this decadent dish, although it’s not overly sweet for first thing in the morning. Diners can also order a side of Crispy Bacon ($3.95), Chicken or Country Sausage ($4.50) or Breakfast Potatoes ($2.95) with their waffle, the latter being one of the tastiest items on the menu. Seriously, you’ve never had breakfast potatoes like these before--they’re to die for. If your breakfast selection doesn’t come with them (select menu items, like the egg dishes and omelettes, come served with a side), be sure to place an order. Otherwise, you’ll regret it later--especially if you ask for a bite off someone else’s plate at your table!
In addition to the Butterscotch Waffle, Mon Ami Gabi also offers a selection of other tasty waffles, such as the Blueberry Waffle ($10.95) with warm blueberry syrup; the Strawberry Waffle ($10.95) with fresh whipped cream; and the Chocolate-Bacon Waffle ($11.95) with warm maple syrup. Other tempting breakfast dishes include the Lemon, Cinnamon or Apple Pancakes ($11.95 each); the Spinach & Brie, Ham & Cheese or Egg, Bacon & Cheese Crepes ($12.95 each); and the Smoked Salmon Platter ($11.95) with bagel, cream cheese and garnishes. And, for those who just aren’t big on breakfast (though you’d truly be missing out on something special here), there’s a small section on the breakfast menu dedicated to “Not Breakfast” items as well, which includes, amongst other items, French Onion Soup ($8.95), Croque Madame ($12.50) and the restaurant’s signature Steak Frites ($23.95, pictured left).
Once you get a taste of what Mon Ami Gabi can offer, odds are you’ll be back later on to try one of the restaurant’s lunch or dinner dishes. If you happen to return before July 26, be sure to try the restaurant’s special Tour de France dessert, the “Paris-Brest”--a famous French “bicycle wheel” pastry puff filled with cream that will be on the menu during the duration of the epic race. The restaurant will also be serving a selection of Bastille Day-inspired dishes in celebration of the French holiday from July 9-15. For more information, click here.
