Mompreneur Monday: San Diego Bargain Mama

Stacey Ross, also known as San Diego Bargain Mama, has created a business that allows her to share money-saving tips with thousands of families who live, and vacation, here in San Diego.

Stacey was kind enough to take the time to share her story and provide inspiration for other mompreneurs.

SDPE: What prompted you to start your business?

SDBM: I always have had an internal magnet for deals, so in the switch to a one-income household, with much greater expenses, I attempted to make the challenge fun and see how many ways my family could continue doing what we loved, while focusing on new ways to cut corners and economize. I wanted to create a resource geared toward moms that shared free to affordable local events and activities and showcase quality "finds" for less.

SDPE: What has been your greatest accomplishment or biggest challenge?

SDBM: I am proud to have such loyal readers and to receive continual interest from the media. I look forward to a site re-launch very soon, which will combine the most well-received features of the blog, website, email campaigns and original newsletter (which is what the site was built around). My biggest challenge, by far, has been finding the time to build SDBM while raising two young kids. I have spent over two years squeezing practically all of my extra time and evening hours into the growth of the SDBM vision.

SDPE: How many children do you have?

SDBM: We have a 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. We wanted our kids back-to-back and, fortunately, our wish was granted!

SDPE: How do you balance work and family life?

SDBM: I think balance connotes even on all sides...My kids are my first job, and they consume most of my time.

SDPE: You seem to always have a smile on your face. Where do you find inspiration?

SDBM: I am inspired by entrepreneurs, especially those who are pioneers in effectively navigating social media. I love learning from those willing to take chances, collaborate, and share their knowledge and talents. I have experienced such an impressive, giving spirit from the San Diego community, and that keeps me smiling every day!

SDPE: What advice would you offer to those looking to start their own business?

SDBM: Be well prepared in case the business takes off sooner than you had anticipated! Multiply your projected efforts by 3 or 4. Stay focused on your mission and don't get too distracted, yet be open to new ideas that head your way. Lastly, if you have an online presence, try using social media to spread the word.

SDPE: What do you see for the future of San Diego Bargain Mama?

SDBM: San Diego Bargain Mama ® has many forward-thinking plans, one of which is to expand to other cities.

SDPE: Finally, what local San Diego favorites do you recommend?

SDBM: We can often be found on Sundays at Fidel's Norte Mexican restaurant and Carlsbad State Beach, our favorite family hang-outs. If we're in a decadent mood, we will top the day with ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.

San Diego Bargain Mama provides coupons and discounts for restaurants, local attractions and shops that you are already patronizing. Before heading out, make sure to stop by the Savings and Coupons page of the SDBM website for current deals and discounts.
