Higgins told the Examiner today that she selected San Fancisco as a host site because "San Francisco has such a great energy! Many of the families are already privy to a more natural lifestyle and honestly, we hope that San Francisco can show us a thing or two about being modern and dynamic parents while still maintaining a rich family balance!"

"When I was pregnant with my son I attended a variety of parenting events, but something was always missing. Either there was a lack of expert information being given or the natural element was missing and I felt like I was being pitched products rather than parenting techniques. When I started MommyCon I wanted it to be a place for mothers who value natural family practices came together for the purpose of building community without judgment from their peers" Higgins states.

The convention will be packed full of diverse and knowledgeable speakers representing a well rounded mix of both local professionals like certified nurse midwife Nile Nash to our traveling bloggers; The Leaky Boob, The Baby Guy NYC, and the Honest Toddler. The keynote speaker is Alanis Morissette, an outspoken proponent of attachment parenting practices, a breastfeeding advocate and promoter of natural childbirth. She will share her parenting philosophy, her struggles with postpartum depression and an honest look at her role as mother, philanthropist and attachment parenting advocate.

The workshops offered include Babywearing 101: A comprehensive overview of baby carrier safety, and an assortment of carriers, The Badass Breastfeeder: I Don’t Need Your Authority, I Support You as well as an engaging panel with Chris Lumley, President of Clek, Kim Graham-Nye, President of gDiapers, Whitney McCollum, Attorney at Morrison & Foerster, Meg Collins, Creator of Lucie’s List and Heather Rider, Owner of Monkey Bars Shop to name a few. Also featured at the convention will be The Leaky Boob: A community of over 100,000 breastfeeding and supportive women aimed at normalizing breastfeeding, workshops on car seat safety, essential oils, cloth diapering, skin to skin, postpartum issues and birth plans. Tickets to the event are $55 and are available on-line.
