I have heard many women say that men could never handle giving birth. I must say, I have to agree. Women are strong creatures. I remember returning home the day after giving birth to my son, natural birth I might add. The house was filled with visitors all eager to see and hold our new bundle of joy. I rose to the occasion and made a huge meal for everyone. The whole scene reminded me of a documentary I once saw of a horse giving birth. Immediately following the birth she courageously started running around the field. Yep...I'm one tough horse.
Remember the old days when women would give birth in the fields while they were working and then continue on with the rest of the day after wrapping the baby in a warm cloth? We are incredible creatures. It is unbelievable the the things we can accomplish in a day. We work, clean, cook, shop, organize and provide loving care for everyone around us. Do we have time to be sick? Never.
What would everyone do if we were sick? Who would find the missing sock or wash the undies? Who would comb junior's hair just right or make the best sandwich? Who would give advice to a crying teenager while sewing a button on a much needed blouse? Who would snuggle with a naughty third grader who is obviously just acting out for attention?
That's right people! Mommies don't have time to be sick. We are needed. Whether its a headache, the flu or major surgery, we are up and at 'em a.s.a.p. Tylenol and coffee are my best friends. What would the world do without us?
