On Sep. 2 Abc22Now reports that a mother has chosen to treat her three-year-old daughter's severe burns instead of taking her to the hospital because she feared a children's services intervention. After an anonymous tip from a neighbor, the Dayton Special Victims Unit was notified and the child was taken to a children's hospital for treatment of her third-degree burns.
The mother, who has chosen to remain anonymous, says that people are attempting to villianize her when she isn't a horrible parent like everyone is trying to make her out to be. Her daughter and her bumped into each other while she was carrying a boiling pot of water and some splashed out, getting onto her daughter's rib area. She immediately put the hot pot in the sink and removed her daughter's shirt. She dressed the wound and has been changing the dressing two to three times a day making sure that it stays clean. The mother claims that she didn't want to take her child to the hospital because she feared an intervention from children's services and her children would be taken away because of a past incident with the organization. She was cleared of all charges in the first case, but doesn't state what they were investigating.
The anonymous caller made claims of the child's skin rolling back and the wound looking very nasty when they called. When police showed up, they described the conditions of the home the child lives in as deplorable. There is no news as to the state of the child, or whether children's services have, indeed, been contacted.
