A "mom suspect missing baby" story is entering headlines after police in Memphis tried searching for a seven-week-old girl Friday who was last seen Thursday. News Channel 5 reports Jan. 10 that Andrea Walker, 33, was charged with abuse and neglect over the baby's disappearance.
The baby, Aniston Walker, was last seen by her mother Thursday morning, according to police. Andrea Walker told authorities that she left her daughter with her three-year-old son so she could take her five-year-old son to school. Upon her return, the baby was gone but the three-year-old was still inside the home. Memphis Police Director said now the mom is a suspect in the missing baby case.
Andrea Walker is currently being held on $500,000 bond.
The search for the missing baby is narrowed down to the Memphis neighborhood and their local landfill. An excavator was used to dig in a small pond behind the Walkers' home for evidence. One area of focus was a small pond behind the home, where a power excavator was used to dig for evidence. Cadaver dogs have been used to search yards, trash containers, around trees.
Police said Walker is not being "as forthcoming as we wish that she would."
It is an unfortunate reality that the dad or mom is often the suspect in a missing baby investigation because in more instances than not, they have played some role in the child's disappearance. It was published in the report that the father did not live at the Walker residence.
