According to Yahoo, earlier in the year, Ms. Weiss put her seven year old daughter on a diet, and then she wrote a bestselling book called ‘The Heavy’, where she chronicles the experience of weight loss and provides a very honest point of view about the effects of childhood obesity.
Many did not agree with her putting her seven year old child on a diet; however, she kindly pointed out she had to do something. She went on to explain that nearly one third of all children in United States are obese.
Bea, her seven year old daughter stood at 4 foot 4 inches tall and nearly 100 pounds. Dara-Lynn decided to put her child on a Weight Watcher type diet, and then document it, hoping it would help another family struggling with childhood obesity.
One day Bea came home from school in tears, confessing that a boy at school had called her fat. The incident crushed me, but it was a wake-up call. Being overweight is not a private struggle. Everyone can see it.
Many people have concerns about her methods. They worry her anxiety about her daughters weight issue may be a reflection of her own struggles, and a breeding ground for an developing eating disorder in her child. Her daughter, Bea, lost 16 pounds in one year, and she grew two inches; she claims she feels better than she ever has.
Do you think this mom handled her daughter’s weight problem correctly?
