Mom charged with murder of 3-year-old, stuffed body in suitcase and freezer

A Napa mother and her boyfriend allegedly stuffed her dead 3-year-old daughter's body in a suitcase and put it in a freezer, before placing her in her bed and attempting to flee. The pair stand accused of beating the little girl to death according to court documents released Tuesday.

Sara Krueger, 23, and Ryan Scott Warner, 26, were charged with murder Tuesday in connection with the death of Krueger's 3-year-old daughter Kayleigh Slusher, according to the San Francisco Chronicle on Feb. 4.

Kayleigh's body was found in her bed Saturday by Napa police officers, who had been called by neighbors to Krueger's second-floor apartment to do a welfare check.

The criminal complaint alleges the couple killed Kayleigh on Thursday, a day after police had previously been called to the apartment to check on the little blond-haired girl.

Mom charged with dumping son's body parts in garbage bags.

Napa police Lt. Debbie Peecook said Kayleigh had suffered blunt-force trauma and appeared to have been sexually assaulted.

Police officers confirmed they'd been called several times to the couple's apartment to investigate domestic disturbances, but there had been no calls about Kayleigh to the Napa County agency in charge of protecting children from abuse.

However, Wednesday's call was from a neighbor who feared Kreuger was using drugs, letting people stay in her second-floor apartment and not feeding her daughter.

On Krueger's Facebook page she calls herself a, "Full Time Mommy! :)", and describes herself as, "the proud mommy of a beautiful and smart lil girl named Kayleigh.", according to the Daily News.

But neighbors say that when Warner moved into the apartment last year, it all went downhill from there. Witnesses saw pair leaving the home with luggage Saturday.

Authorities nabbed the duo around 11 a.m. Sunday near a train station, in a Bay Area town 30 miles south of Napa. Both Warner and Krueger have criminal pasts and were described as no strangers to police.

Yet still Napa police Capt. Jeff Troendly defended his department to the AP saying, "There was no indication that anyone would be in danger in that household."

Troendly called the case shocking and disheartening. KPIX-TV is reporting that police have been summoned to the home 14 times since 2012.

The murdered girl's biological father is reportedly an inmate at the San Quentin State Prison. After Tuesday's court proceedings, Napa County District Attorney Gary Lieberstein told reporters to hold their kids a little tighter tonight.

Krueger and Warner are being held without bail and are scheduled for their next court appearance on Feb. 25.
